- iHeart center in Island hospital is dedicated to cardiology and angiographic surgeries. Atherosclerosis is the process by which the heart arteries develop hardening and progressive narrowing. When the narrowing becomes severe, patients develop chest pain (angina) and a heart attack if complete occlusion occurs. Occlusion can sometimes occur even if the narrowing is not severe, which is why heart attacks can happen without any preceding symptoms or warning.
